MSJC Women Win at Grossmont
The MSJC women's basketball team overcame a slow start offensively on Friday night to defeat Grossmont 57-49 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference contest in El Cajon.
The Lady Eagles and the Griffons both struggled for points in the first half with MSJC clinging to a 21-19 lead at the break. MSJC was able to break the game open midway through the second when the Lady Eagles went on a 13-0 run to push their lead to 16 at 53-37. MSJC put the separation between themselves and Grossmont on the strength of two three pointers each from Erin Stanford and DeShea Wilkes.
Stanford finished the night with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists while Wilkes finished the game with 15 points and 6 boards. Lailahni Tuaila just missed double figures with 8 points in the victory.
The Lady Eagles improved their record to 15-4 overall with the win and are now 3-1 in PCAC play. Grossmont fell to 6-11 overall and 3-1 in league play. MSJC will be back in action on Wednesday when they host MiraCosta. Wednesday's home contest tips off at 5 pm.
DeShea Wilkes made 4 of her 5 three point shot attempts on Friday night and finished the game with 15 points as she helped the Lady Eagles to a 57-49 win over Grossmont in El Cajon. The Lady Eagles will be at home Wednesday night when they host MiraCosta at 5 pm.
