Poor Shooting Ends Lady Eagles Season at LBCC

The MSJC women's basketball team struggled to find any shooting rhythm on Saturday night and lost in a CCCAA Southern California Regional second round game at Long Beach City 70-54.coralbcc.jpg

The Lady Eagles shot just 4 for 37 from the floor in the first half and found themselves behind 36-19 at the break.  MSJC never really found the shooting range in the second half either, but were able to stay in the game with some solid work on the offensive glass as they grabbed 25 offensive rebounds on the night.  MSJC couldn't overcome the Vikings however as the closest they would get in the second half was 14.

MSJC, despite getting 5 more shot attempts and out rebounding the Vikings, had no answer for the inside game of LBCC as their starting post players combined for 30 points and 20 rebounds.  Cora Lopez, the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference player of the year, led the Lady Eagles with 15 points and 8 rebounds.  Erin Stanford had a solid game for MSJC as she had 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Brittany Neely and Johnette Brown finished the game with 7 points a piece in the loss.

The Lady Eagles, who won the PCAC title this year, finished their season at 23-7.  Long Beach will move on to play Pasadena on Wednesday in the So Cal Regional semi-finals, they improved to 25-4 on the season.

Cora Lopez had 15 points and 8 rebounds, but it was not enough as the MSJC women's basketball season came to an end Saturday night in Long Beach as the Lady Eagles lost to LBCC 70-54.
