Seven Lady Eagle Basketball Players Honored by PCAC
The MSJC women's basketball team had a program record seven players honored by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference on Monday when the PCAC North All League Team was announced.
Delacy Brown, Crystal Malveaux, Randi Johnson, and Kristian Dewitt were all named First Team All Conference while Nokomis Cabrera and Kaila Gower made the Second Team, Marissa Williams earned Honorable Mention status from the league.
Brown, a freshman from Riverside Poly HS, led the Lady Eagles in scoring during the regular season averaging 18.3 points per game. She also led the team in assists during 2016-17 at 5 per contest. Brown earned all tournament status at all five of the pre-conference tournaments MSJC played in this season and was named MVP of the Desert Winter Classic in December. Crystal Malveaux, a sophomore from Lakeside HS, made the First Team after averaging 11.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4 assists a game during the regular season. Malveaux, who earned 2nd Team all league honors last season was also named the MVP of both the San Jacinto Lion's Club Tournament and the High Desert Classic in Barstow back in November.
Johnson was the team's second leading scorer and top rebounder this year for the Lady Eagles as she scored 14.3 points per game and grabbed 8.4 rebounds a game. Johnson also earned an MVP award at the Panther Pride Tournament hosted by Chaffey College in early December. Johnson is a sophomore from Elsinore High School. Kristian Dewitt also garnered a First Team selection after scoring 11 points per game for MSJC this year. Dewitt is a sophomore transfer from Odessa Junior College in Texas.
Cabrera, a sophomore from Twenty-Nine Palms HS and Gower, a freshman from Heritage HS, both were voted on to the Second Team after helping MSJC to a 25-4
regular season record. Cabrera has made over 100 three point shots in her MSJC career and this season averaged 9.8 points per game for the Lady Eagles. Gower played in all 29 of MSJC's regular season games and averaged 8.9 points per game, she averaged 12.3 points in conference play. Williams, a freshman from Lakeside HS, was the team's best defender during 16-17 and also was second on the team in three point field goal percentage, shooting an impressive 41%.
These seven players along with their teammates will take on Los Angeles Trade Tech in the second round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional play-offs on Friday night in LA. The Lady Eagles who finished second in the PCAC North earned the #9 seed for the play-offs and received a first round bye. Friday's game at Trade Tech is set to tip off at 7 pm.
