Thomas, Brown Head Post Season Women's Basketball Awards

The MSJC women's basketball team which wrapped up the regular season with a 27-2 record and are set to begin the play-offs at home Saturday night had five players honored by the Pacific britanddelacyallstate-18.jpg
Coast Athletic Conference Monday and two honored by the State.

Britney Thomas (SO. San Jacinto HS) earned PCAC North Division Player of the Year honors for the second time, she had the same distinction following her freshman season in 2015-16.  Thomas helped the Lady Eagles to a co-conference championship, the team's fourth conference title in the last six years, and the #3 seed in the CCCAA Southern California State play-offs.  Thomas finished  the regular season averaging 20.9 points and 14.6 rebounds per game, in conference games she scored 21.8 poikailaallconf-18.jpgnts a game and grabbed 18 rebounds per contest.

Delacy Brown (SO. Riverside Poly HS), Kaila Gower (SO Heritage HS), and Carla Johnson (SO. Perris HS) all earned First Team All League honors while Madeline Morrow (Riverside King HS) was named to the Second Team.

Brown averaged 19 points a game this season along with 7 rebounds.  She also led the team in assists per game at 4.6 and dished out 5.8 assists during conference play.  Brown was also a First Team selection last year following her freshman season.  Kaila Gower, who was named 2nd Team All Conference last season earned a spot on the 1st Team this year after averaging 12.3 points per game for the season and 15 points in conference play.  Gower also averaged 6.1 rebounds per game.  Johnson averaged 7 points per game during the year and 4.4 rebounds to go along with 3 assists per game.  Morrow averaged 5.4 points per game to 2.7 assists while usually drawing the assignment of guarding the opposing team's best offensive player.
Thomas and Brown were further honored on Tuesday when Thomas was named the CCCAA Southern California Player of the Year and Brown was named Second Team maddieallconf-18.jpgAll State.  Thomas also earned So Cal Player of the Year honors in 2015-16.  Brown is also a repeat All State selection as she was named to the Second Team at the conclusion of last year's season.  Thomas and Brown join former Lady Eagle players Danielle Smith and Tina Fantroy as the only players in program history to be named to the All State Team twice in their careers.

These five players along with their teammates will begin the CCCAA Southern California Regional play-offs on Saturday night when they host the winner of Wednesday's game between Pasadena City and San Diego City.  Saturday's game will tip-off at 7 PM.

The MSJC women's basketball team had five players honored by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and two recognized by the CCCAA this week when the All-Conference and All-State Teams were announced.  Britney Thomas #32 was named both the PCAC and CCCAA Southern California Player of the Year.  Delacy Brown #12 was named First Team all league and 2nd Team All-State.  Kaila Gower and Carla Johnson earned First Team All PCAC honors while Madeline Morrow was named to 2nd Team All PCAC.  (DeeAnn Bradley/MSJC).
