Women's Basketball Brings Home Title from Saddleback Tourney

The MSJC women's basketball team won three games over ranked teams this weekend to win the championship of the Saddleback Lady Gaucho Classic played Thursday through Saturday in wbballforSaddtourney-17.jpg

On Thursday the Lady Eagles opened the tournament with a hard fought win over #12 ranked Irvine Valley College 78-70.  Madeline Morrow and Delacy Brown led a well balanced offensive effort with 12 points a piece.  Brown added 11 rebounds and five assists in the victory.  Carla Johnson came off the bench to score 11 points and Britney Thomas had a double double in limited playing time as she scored 10 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, Kaila Gower just missed a double double as she scored 9 points and also grabbed 11 boards.

In Friday's semi-final MSJC was able to get some breathing room late as they beat a very good LA Trade Tech team, which was ranked #11 entering the game 72-59.  Brown led four Lady Eagles in double figures with 21 points she also had 9 rebounds.  Thomas had 13 points and 19 boards for her second straight double double and Gower hit the mark this time with 12 points and 10 boards.  Marissa Williams also reached double figures finishing the night with 10 points.

In Saturday's Championship game MSJC was able to beat 5th ranked East Los Angeles 56-52 in a game that was close the whole way.  Thomas earned her third straight double double with 16 points and 21 rebounds while Gower scored 14 big points.  Brown also recorded a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while also dishing out 5 assists.

For their efforts over the three day tournament Brown was named to the All Tournament team and Thomas was named the event's Most Valuable Player.

MSJC is now 5-1 on the season and will return to action on Friday December 1st when they take part in the Panther Pride Tournament at Chaffey College.  The Lady Eagles will open that tourney with a game against Skyline at 3 pm.
