Women's Basketball Set to Host El Camino in Regional Final

The Lady Eagles come into the contest after defeating Pasadena City College last Saturday night 81-46 in the second round of the play-offs.  Britney Thomas led MSJC with 26 points while Delacy Brown followed with 17 in the victory.  The Lady Eagles are 28-2 on the season and are attempting to qualify for the Elite Eight for the second time in the past three seasons, last year MSJC lost in the Regional Final on the road at Mt. San Antonio.  Thomas, the CCCAA Southern California Player of the Year, and Brown, a 2nd Team All-State selection, have been MSJC's top scorers for the season at 21.1 and 18.9 points per game while Kaila Gower also enters Saturday's contest averaging double figures at 12.2 for the year.  The Lady Eagles started the post season ranked #3 in the state and are the #3 seed in the Regional.
El Camino rolls into Saturday night's game with an overall record of 21-6, they are the #6 seed in the So. Cal Region and were ranked #13 in the final regular season state poll.  They are the champions of the South Coast Conference's South Division and advanced to the Regional Final with a 62-50 win last Friday night at home over West Los Angeles.  They are led on offense by First Team All-State selection Kayla Bibb.  Bibb averages 16.1 points per game to go along with a team best 10.3 rebounds.  Nao Shiota averages 11 points per game for the Warriors while starting post player Amieta Nyingifa comes in just shy of averaging a double double at 10.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest.

There are four Regional Finals across both Southern and Northern California being played on Saturday night with the eight winners advancing to the State Elite Eight next Thursday through Sunday in Ventura.  Tickets for Saturday night's game will be available at the door at 6 pm.  Ticket prices set by the CCCAA are $12 General Admission and $8 for students, faculty, staff, children under 12, and seniors.

MSJC's Carla Johnson will help lead her team into the CCCAA Southern California Regional Finals on Saturday night when they host El Camino at 7 pm.  The Lady Eagles 28-2 on the season will be attempting to advance to the State Elite Eight when they take on the 21-6 Warriors.  (DeeAnn Bradley/MSJC)
