The MSJC women's basketball team used a strong start to the second half on Friday night to pick up an important Pacific Coast Athletic Conference win at home over San Diego City 66-55.
The Lady Eagles and the Knights were tied at 30-30 at halftime, before MSJC had an impressive run to push the lead out to 16 midway through the second half. San Diego City would not go away however as they got all the way back to within 2 points on two separate occasions with less than 3 minutes to play.
DeShea Wilkes hit a big three point shot with just over two minutes to play to give the Lady Eagles a five point lead and from there MSJC never looked back. A strong finish down the stretch gave MSJC the win.
Wilkes ended the night as the Lady Eagles top scorer with 12 points, while Bree Madory added 10. Cora Lopez had 8 points and 11 rebounds in limited action, due to foul trouble. Brittany Neely also added 8 points for the Lady Eagles and Tamara Herring went 7 for 8 from the free throw line to help MSJC preserve the victory.
The Lady Eagles are now 19-6 on the season and 8-2 in PCAC play. SD City fell to 10-12 overall and 5-5 in conference action. MSJC, who is currently tied for first place with Southwestern, will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to El Cajon to take on Grossmont in a 5 pm game. The Lady Eagles will be at home on Friday when they host Mira Costa at 5 pm.
