Women's Basketball Team Knocks Off Top Ranked Palomar
The MSJC women's basketball team avenged their only loss of the season so far as they defeated #1 ranked Palomar Wednesday night 85-69 at home in their PCAC North opener.
The Lady Eagles led 20-12 at the end of the first quarter and held on late in the second period to lead 42-38 at the half. MSJC was able to extend the lead in the third as they outscored the Comets 22-10 to hold a 64-48 lead heading to the final period. The teams played evenly over the final 10 minutes to arrive at the final score.
Delacy Brown led the Lady Eagle offense with a game high 27 points, she also grabbed 6 rebounds and passed out 4 assists. Kaila Gower scored 23 points and also pulled in 6 rebounds while Britney Thomas had a double double with 10 points and a game high 18 rebounds. Carla Johnson came off the bench to add 10 points in the win. Madeline Morrow scored 7 points, including going a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line.
MSJC, who came into Wednesday's game ranked #2 in Southern California and #3 in State, improved to 20-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while Palomar ranked #1 in both So. Cal and the State fell to 18-1 for the year and 0-1 in PCAC North action. The win also marks the Lady Eagles 12th straight season in which they have won at least 20 games.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday when they travel to Oceanside to take on Mira Costa in a 5 pm game. The MSJC men will also be in Oceanside to play at 7 on Friday. MSJC's next home game will be on Wednesday January 24th when they host a women's and men's doubleheader with College of the Desert with the women's game tipping off at 5.
