The MSJC women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack on Wednesday night at home to earn a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference victory 82-40 against visiting MiraCosta.
MiraCosta kept the game close for the first 10 minutes as they led 15-13 with 9:00 to play in the first half, before the Lady Eagles finished the half on a 26-0 run to grab a 39-15 lead at the break. MSJC would push the run all the way to 33-0 to start the second half before the Spartans made a free throw with 15:43 to play in the game. 12 of MSJC's 14 players scored at least two points in the victory.
DeShea Wilkes led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 11 points, while Erin Stanford and Sarina Johnson both scored 10 a piece. Stanford also dished out a game high 7 assists and had 7 rebounds. Kenyetta Fugate just missed a double double with 8 points and a team high 9 rebounds while Christina Grant had 8 points and 7 rebounds and Suzie Castro-Larsen added 7 points and 6 boards in the victory.
The win pushed MSJC's record to 16-4 overall on the season and 4-1 in PCAC action while MiraCosta fell to 4-11 and 2-3 in conference play. The Lady Eagles will travel to San Diego Mesa on Friday for a 5 pm contest and return home next Wednesday January 28th when they host Southwestern.
