The MSJC women's basketball team won two of three games over the weekend as they brought home the consolation championship of the Panther Pride Tournament at Chaffey College.
The Lady Eagles struggled to make shots on Friday in a defensive battle with Irvine Valley and came out on the short end of a 54-47 game. Sarina Johnson led the MSJC offense with 14 points while Johnette Brown had 8 points and 7 boards. Erin Stanford also had 8 points and dished out 7 assists.
MSJC rebounded on Saturday as the beat Barstow 81-54. Thirteen different Lady Eagles scored in the game led by Johnson with 18. DeShea Wilkes had 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Suzie Castro-Larsen added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Stanford had 9 points and 4 assists in the victory.
Sunday MSJC rounded out the tournament by beating Citrus 66-56. The Lady Eagles built the lead to as much as 20 midway through the second half on their way to the win. Wilkes, who was named to the all tournament team, led the way this time with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Brown and Lailahni Tuaila both had 13 points.
MSJC is now 7-2 on the season and will return to action on December 18th when they play LA Harbor in the first round of the Desert Winter Classic in Palm Desert.
DeShea Wilkes scored 18 points on Sunday to help the MSJC women's basketball team close out the Panther Pride Tournament with a 2-1 record. Wilkes was named to the all tournament team. MSJC is now 7-2 on the season.
