The MSJC women's basketball team overcame some poor shooting on Friday night to pick up a 52-46 win at
MiraCosta and remain tied for first place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference heading into the final week of the regular season.
The Lady Eagles shot just 17 for 63 from the field and 2 of 13 from beyond the three point line as they struggled to take a 29-25 lead at the half. MiraCosta would take the lead with just over 10 minutes to play in the game at 41-40, before a 5-0 run by MSJC would put them back in control of the game. The Lady Eagles had several chances in the last 5 minutes to lengthen their lead, but could not get it into double digits due to untimely turnovers. MSJC was able to maintain their advantage in the game because of their domination of the boards. The Lady Eagles out rebounded MiraCosta 59-27 in the contest.
Erin Stanford finished with a team high 17 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists while Johnette Brown added 9 points and 7 rebounds. Genaya Wilkinson brought down a game high 14 rebounds in the victory for MSJC.
The win, which was the Lady Eagles 10th straight, improved their overall record to 23-4 and pushed their PCAC mark to 11-1 on the year. MSJC will play their final regular season home game on Wednesday when they host San Diego Mesa at 5 pm. The Lady Eagles will finish the regular season on Friday when they travel to Chula Vista to take on Southwestern at 7 pm.
Johnette Brown scored 7 of her 9 points in the second half on Friday to help the MSJC women's basketball team win their 10th straight game and improve to 23-4 on the season with a 52-46 win over MiraCosta in Oceanside. (photo-DeeAnn Bradley/MSJC)
