Women's Hoops Open Ventura Tourney With Win
The MSJC women's basketball team got off to a bit of a slow start on Thursday, but bounced back to pick up a win over Alan Hancock College 80-49 in the opening round of the Ventura Tournament.
The Lady Eagles led just 13-12 after the first quarter and 31-23 at the half, before breaking the game open halfway through the third period. After the Bulldogs fought back within four points in the third MSJC ended the quarter on a 14-2 run and then out scored Hancock 28-13 in the fourth to pick up the victory.
MSJC, currently ranked #3 in the State and #2 in Southern California in the latest CCCWBCA poll, were led offensively by Delacy Brown who scored a game high 21 points. Kaila Gower added 17 and Britney Thomas chipped in with 14 despite playing only 16 minutes due to early foul trouble. Brown also added 7 rebounds and 7 assists in the victory. Maddie Morrow had a strong game as well with 9 points while Marissa Williams made several key defensive plays. Grace Rosa led the Bulldogs with 20 points.
The Lady Eagles are now 13-1 on the season and will continue tournament play tomorrow at 5 pm when they take on LA Valley in the semi-finals.
