Women's Hoops Picks Up Home Win Over SD City
The MSJC women's basketball team finished the first half on a 22-6 run that helped propel them to a 90-53 victory over visiting San Diego City on Wednesday night in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game.
The Lady Eagles and the Knights played an even game for the first 15 minutes, before MSJC made a late first half push to give themselves a 40-26 lead at the half. MSJC was able to extend the lead in the second half and pull away for the victory. 13 of the Lady Eagles 14 players scored in the victory.
Johnette Brown led the way for MSJC with 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Christina Grant also recorded a double double with 13 points and 10 boards. DeShea Wilkes also reached double figures in scoring for MSJC with 11. Erin Stanford had a strong night with 8 points and 5 assists.
The victory improved MSJC's record to 14-4 overall on the season and 2-1 in PCAC action. San Diego City fell to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Lady Eagles will travel to El Cajon on Friday to take on Grossmont. Grossmont is currently 3-0 in league play. MSJC returns home next Wednesday January 21st when they host MiraCosta in a 5 pm contest.
