Women's Hoops to Host East LA Saturday Night for Trip to the Final Four
The MSJC women's basketball team will host East Los Angeles College on Saturday night at 7 pm with a trip to the State Final Four on the line.
The Lady Eagles, who come into Saturday's game 30-1 on the season and seeded #2 in the Southern California Region, advanced to the Regional Final with home wins over Citrus and Cypress so far this post season. MSJC defeated Citrus last Saturday night 78-66 and then beat Cypress Wednesday night 92-76. The Huskies advanced to this point by virtue of home wins over Santa Ana College 101-94 and Pasadena City 58-45, ELAC has a 22-9 record coming into the contest.
MSJC was the co-Champion of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference during the regular season while ELAC tied for second place in the South Coast Conference's North Division. The Huskies are led by a pair of First Team All Conference picks in Tiffani Martinez and Jessica Sanchez. The duo lead a balanced offense for ELAC with Martinez averaging 13.8 points per game and Sanchez scoring 10.4. Second Team All South Coast selections Yasmine Tweedy and Jasmine Gates are also key parts of the Huskies squad as is 6'6 freshman post player Anastasia Tsybaeva.
The Lady Eagles are led by Southern California Player of the Year Britney Thomas who had game highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds in MSJC's win on Wednesday. Fellow First Team All Conference forward Christina Grant and Honorable Mention All PCAC post Genaya Wilkinson helped MSJC dominate the boards in their win over Cypress. Second Team All State guard Sarina Johnson had 16 points Wednesday as did Nokomis Cabrera. All Conference point guard Crystal Malveaux had 8 points and 8 rebounds.
The winner of Saturday night's game will advance to the State Final Four at Las Positas College in Livermore next weekend. The state semi-finals are scheduled for Friday night and the State Title game will be played Sunday March 13th.
Genaya Wilkinson had a double double on Wednesday night to help the MSJC women's basketball team to a CCCAA So Cal Regional Semi-Final win over Cypress. Now the Lady Eagles will host East LA on Saturday night at 7pm for the chance to move onto the State Final Four. Tip off Saturday is at 7 pm.
