Chung Wins Southern Cal Regional Title
MSJC women's golfer Iris Chung captured the individual title of the Southern California Regional Tournament held Sunday and Monday in Santa Barbara.
Chung shot an opening round 74 on Sunday where she had three birdies and an eagle. The sophomore from Taiwan followed her 74 with a final round 73 as she won the title three strokes ahead of the second place finisher. With the victory Chung qualifies for the State Tournament which will be played in Modesto November 18th and 19th. Chung also qualified for the state tournament last year as a freshmen.
Chung's teammates, Alice Hiluta and Cheyenne Ackerman also competed in the Regional Tournament with Hiluta tying for 14th place just two spots shy of making the state finals and Ackerman was 22nd. Hiluta shot 84-82 over the 2 day event while Ackerman fired and 83 in the opening round and closed with an 86.
Iris Chung shot 74-73 on Sunday and Monday as she captured the title at the women's Southern California Regional golf tournament. Chung will go on to play in the state championships November 18th and 19th in Modesto.
