Lady Eagles Win Foothill Opener in Golf

The Lady Eagles opened Foothill Conference play by winning the College of the Desert hosted match over the 5,495 yard track at Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert with a 347.  Mt. San Antonio College finished in second place with a 360 followed by College of the Desert, Palomar College, and Long Beach City College.  Mt. San Jacinto College moves to 5-0 in conference and 11-1 overall.
Freshman Ya-Ting Yang continued her winning ways leading the Lady Eagles as the match medalist with a 76, which was one stroke better than Arica Rodriguez of Mt. San Antonio College.  Yang shot an even par 36 on the front nine and a four over par 40 on the back nine consisting of 1 birdie, 12 pars, and 5 bogeys.
Freshman Connie Chen blitzed the front nine for three birdies shooting a 37 and finished with a 78 for 3rd place in the 16 women field.  Chen, in addition to the three birdies on the front nine, had a chip-in birdie on #16 and 6 pars, 7 bogeys, and a triple bogey overall.
Sophomore and Captain Katelyn Hardy shot a 90 placing her in 7th place.
Freshman Melissa Simpson took a few steps backward from her play in the South Coast Classic Golf Championship and the Cactus Open shooting a 103 in the 100+ degree temperature and cloudless, scorching sun with no breeze of any kind..  She and Hardy are looking forward to another shot at Desert Falls CC.
They will get their chance as the Lady Eagles travel back to Desert Falls CC on Monday, September 20, 2008 for Foothill Conference Match #2 hosted by College of the Desert.  Tee time is 10:00 a.m.
