Irvine Valley College fired a first round best 310, Bakersfield College carded a 333 for third place, Saddleback College shot 339 for fifth place, and Mt. San Antonio College shot a 449. The teams in first and second place after the second round, tomorrow, will advance to the CCCAA State Tournament next week.
Freshman and International Student Ya-Ting Yang sizzled through the 5,710 yard track at Alisal River Course in Solvang with a 1 under par 71. Nicole Rivera, of Irvine Valley College, is the first round leader with a 69 and Malea Miller, of Bakersfield College, is tied with Yang.
Freshman Connie Chen recorded an 80 in the misty, foggy, cloudy conditions with the temperature in the 50's. Chen is in 11th place going into round two tomorrow. The top 12 individuals from the Southern California Regional qualify for the CCCAA State Tournament.
Sophomore and Captain Katelyn Hardy shot a 94 to finish 35th in the 44 women field after the first round.
Freshman Melissa Simpson posted a 92 to earn a tie for 32nd place going into the action tomorrow.
The second and final round is tomorrow, Monday, November 8, 2010, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Lady Eagles are looking to return to their form earlier in the year when they shot a 316 at the Cactus Open in order to have a chance to qualify for the State Tournament.
