Three More Women's Soccer Players Earn Scholarships

Three MSJC women's soccer players signed scholarships today to play next year at the four year level.  These three join two of their teammates who signed back in December.wsoccersignings2015.jpg

Kellie Drew and Cali Prentice signed with San Diego Christian College and Azalea Sanchez signed with Wayland Baptist University in Texas.  All three players earned First Team All Pacific Coast Athletic Conference honors this past season while leading the Lady Eagles to their second straight play-off appearance.  MSJC finished the 2014 season with 15-3-3 record and were runners up in the PCAC North Conference.  Over the past two seasons MSJC has an overall record of 27-10-5.

"I'm excited about being able to stay close to home and play at San Diego Christian," said Drew.  "I really learned a lot both in soccer and in school here at MSJC, I learned to fight through the rough times and become a better player," Drew added.  Prentice also likes the idea of staying close to home to continue her career and added; "I really learned a lot on the field and became a better player, I also learned time management with my classes and practice, I think I did a lot better with that than I did in high school."  Sanchez took the other approach citing her reason for going to Wayland Baptist as an opportunity to see and be in something different.  "I think the difference in Texas and California will be a great experience," said Sanchez.  "I also want to thank Coach Hayes he did a great job getting us exposure and helping us grow as players."

MSJC has one more sophomore in the graduating class of 2015, Kayla Haas, who is still weighing her options between a couple of schools but expects to sign in the next couple of weeks.  The signings today add to the December signings of Dimitra Tsambasis and Alexa Parker.  Both are already at their new schools with Tsambasis attending Angelo State and Parker in school at Louisiana Monroe.

"I just want to thank these girls for all of their hard work and dedication to the MSJC soccer program", said head coach Chauncey Hayes, "they have helped us continue to grow our program and they were rewarded with back to back play-off appearances."
