Lady Eagle Soccer Team Comes up Short at LBCC
The MSJC women's soccer team fought hard on Friday afternoon, but came up on the short end of a 3-1 match played at Long Beach City College.
The Lady Eagles fell behind 1-0 13:31 into the match when the Vikings Maria Vitiello scored an unassisted goal to give the Vikings the lead. MSJC would answer back though in the 39th minute when sophomore Morgan Schaaf scored her own unassisted goal to tie things up. Long Beach would reclaim the lead late in the first half on a goal by Kalie Bembry. The score remained 2-1 at the half. Victoria Gonzalez would push the Vikings lead to 3-1 in the 58th minute and neither team managed a goal from that point on and LBCC took the victory 3-1.
Elizabeth Barackman had 3 saves in goal for MSJC, before giving way to April Sawyer midway through the second half. Sawyer added three saves of her own in the final 23 minutes. The Lady Eagles finished the day with four shots on goal.
The loss drops MSJC to 1-3 on the season while Long Beach improved to 3-3-1. The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday September 19th when they host San Bernardino Valley at 3:15 on the Menifee Campus. Tuesday's match is the first Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division match of the year.
