Lady Eagle Soccer Team Opens Season With Home Win
The MSJC women's soccer team opened their 2016 season on Friday with an easy 4-0 win over visiting West Los Angeles in a non-conference match played in Menifee.
The Lady Eagles, who are the defending Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division Champions, led 2-0 at halftime and added two more goals in the final 45 minutes for the shut out victory. Sophomore Stefania Navarrete had a huge day for MSJC as she scored a goal and had two assists on the afternoon. Morgan Schaaf, Destiny Blythe, and Hanna Kanagawa also added goals in the win, while Savanna Alcantar had an assist.
The Lady Eagles used three different goal keepers in their opener as Riley Ludwig, Elizabeth Barackman, and April Sawyer combined to earn the shut out. Ludwig had 3 saves, while Barackman added 2, and Sawyer had 1. MSJC, who has 10 sophomores on their roster, is coming off a season in which their defense had 13 shut outs in 2015.
The victory gets the Lady Eagles off to a 1-0 start on the season, and the team will be back in action next Tuesday September 6th when they travel to Mission Viejo to take on Saddleback College. The match on the 6th will kick off at 2 pm.
Hanna Kanagawa, who was the Lady Eagles second leading goal scorer last season, got off to a fast start in 2016 as she scored one of MSJC's four goals on Friday as the women's soccer team opened the season with a 4-0 win over visiting West Los Angeles College in Menifee.
