Valeria Garcia a member of the MSJC women's soccer team became the second player this Fall to sign a scholarship to a four year school for the upcoming season.
Garcia, a sophomore from Yucaipa High School, earned a scholarship to Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas. Garcia helped MSJC to a conference championship this past season as well as an appearance in the 2015 CCCAA State play-offs. Garcia was named the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division Defensive Player of the Year as the Lady Eagles posted an overall record of 16-4 on the season and 7-1 in PCAC North play. Along with her teammates Garcia led MSJC to 13 shut outs on the season, while also adding one goal and one assist.
Wayland Baptist is an NAIA Division I school and a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference. Last season WBU had a record of 7-7-3 and earned their way into the second round of the conference tournament.
Garcia joins Ryane McDevitt who signed last week with Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee as the first two members of the 2015 MSJC squad to make their four year college choices. Several more Lady Eagles are expected to make their decisions on where to play next year in the coming weeks.
