Lady Eagles Roll to Opening Soccer Win

The MSJC women's soccer team led just 1-0 after the first half on Tuesday, but then erupted for five second half goals on their way to an easy 6-0 season opening victory over host West Los Angeles College.

Freshman Hanna Kanagawa was the star of the day as she scored three goals in her first match as a  Lady Eagle.  It didn't take MSJC long to get on the scoreboard as Kanagawa's first goal came in the 7th minute of the first half.  West Los Angeles would hold off the Lady Eagles over the rest of the first 45 minutes.  Gabriella Harley played the first half in goal for MSJC making 2 saves to preserve the 1-0 halftime lead.

Just five minutes into the second half Melody Gonzalas doubled the MSJC lead with goal and then in the 60th minute she pushed the lead to 3-0 with her second straight goal, this time with an assist from Kaylee Wolever.  Kanagawa would add her second goal of the day in the 74th minute off an assist from Breanna Jeffers.  Sophomore Patricia Roach pushed the lead to 5-0 in the 76th minute and Kanagawa finished off the scoring in the 89th minute with her third score of the match.  Riley Ludwig played a scoreless second half in goal for MSJC.

The Lady Eagles now 1-0 on the season will return to action on Friday when they have their first home match of the 2015 season.  MSJC will host Saddleback on the Menifee Campus Friday with kick off set for 3 pm.
