Lady Eagles Roll to Victory in Soccer Season Opener
The MSJC women's soccer team opened the season on Monday with a convincing home victory over College of the Desert 5-0 in Menifee.
The season started quickly for the Lady Eagles as Savanna Alcantar scored the match's first goal just 6:14 into the first half on an assist from Destinee Jeannette. Patricia Roach added another at 31:42 on an assist from Alcantar to give MSJC a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The Lady Eagles blew the match open midway through the second half when Alcantar scored her second goal of the match at the 65 minute mark. Amber Roberts was credited with an assist on that goal. Valeria Garcia and Ryane McDevitt added goals in the 85th and 87th minute to push the lead to 5-0.
Roberts and Marilla Dos Santos combined in goal to record the shut out for the MSJC defense. The Lady Eagles, who are coming off a season in which they reached the Southern California Regional play-offs, will be back in action on Friday when they travel to El Camino for a 1 pm match.
