MSJC Soccer Opens Conference Play With a Win
The MSJC women's soccer team opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play on Friday with a 2-0 win at home over visiting Mira Costa.
After a short delay because of traffic on the I-15 North, the Lady Eagles wasted no time jumping ahead of the Spartans when Heather Furuya scored the day's first goal just 8 minutes into the match. Furuya scored off an assist from Tiana Torres. Just seven minutes later the Lady Eagles would add another as Mackenzie Berringer scored in the 15th minute off another assist from Torres to make it 2-0. After the fast start both team's defenses settled in and the game would remain 2-0 the rest of the afternoon.
Sarah Sawyer played all 90 minutes in goal for MSJC and she made 6 saves to preserve the shut out.
The win was the first of the year for the Lady Eagles who are now 1-3-1 on the season and 1-0 in PCAC North action. Mira Costa drops to 0-4-1 for the year and 0-1 in conference play. The Lady Eagles will be back in action twice this week as they travel to San Bernardino Valley on Tuesday and return home on Friday to take on San Diego Miramar. Both matches this week are set to kick off at 3 pm.
MSJC's #4 Heather Furuya got the Lady Eagles off to a fast start on Friday as she scored a goal in the 8th minute to give MSJC a lead they would never relinquish as they defeated visiting Mira Costa 2-0 in their 2018 PCAC North Division opener. The soccer team will be back at home this coming Friday September 21st when they host San Diego Miramar at 3 pm. (DeeAnn Bradley/MSJC).
