MSJC Soccer Scores Late to Beat Mira Costa
The MSJC women's soccer team used a late goal on Friday afternoon to defeat Mira Costa 2-1 in their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division opener.
The Lady Eagles got out to an early lead when Dimitra Tsambasis scored a goal in the 16th minute off an assist from Savanna Alcantar. The two teams played very physical the rest of the half, but neither team could manage another goal and MSJC led at the break 1-0.
Mira Costa tied the match in the 61st minute on a penalty kick by Jennifer Morales. The match remained tied until the 87th minute when Ryane McDevitt scored the game winner off an assist from Calonisor Prentice. Amber Roberts had 6 saves on the day in goal for the Lady Eagles as their defense once again was strong in the victory.
The win gives MSJC an overall record of 8-1-2 on the season and makes them 1-0 in PCAC North play, while Mira Costa dropped to 3-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the division. The Lady Eagles return to action on Tuesday October 14th when they host Miramar at 3:15 on the Menifee Campus.
