Soccer Team Beats Mesa, Falls at SD City
The MSJC women's soccer team split their last two matches as they defeated San Diego Mesa on Friday and lost on the road at San Diego City Tuesday.
The Lady Eagles rallied for two late goals this past Friday to defeat San Diego Mesa 3-2. After Mesa took an early lead in the 12th minute, MSJC's leading scorer Heather Furuya tied the match up with a goal in the 32nd minute on an assist from Gloria Martinez. The match would remained tied into the second half before the Olympians once again took the lead on a goal in the 62nd minute to make it a 2-1 score. MSJC would rally right back to even the match in the 64th minute when Ajahni McClendon scored a goal with assist from Miriam Mota. The Lady Eagles then scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the 79th minute when Mota scored unassisted. Sarah Sawyer had a strong game in goal for MSJC as she recorded 8 saves.
Tuesday the Lady Eagles had a tough day getting their offense going as they lost 3-0 on the road to San Diego City. Sawyer had three saves in the loss. MSJC is now home for three straight matches, beginning with a home match Friday October 12th when they host Southwestern at 3 pm. The team will stay at home in Menifee the following week when they take on Norco Tuesday the 16th and Imperial Valley Friday the 19th. Both matches next week will also kick off at 3 pm on the Menifee Campus.
MSJC is now 3-6-3 on the year and 2-1-2 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play.
MSJC goal keeper Sarah Sawyer had 8 saves on Friday and 3 more Tuesday as the Lady Eagle soccer team split a pair of matches, beating San Diego Mesa 3-2 and falling to San Diego City 3-0.
