Soccer Team Comes Up Just Short in Play-Off Match
The MSJC women's soccer team scored the first goal of the match on Saturday, but couldn't hang on as they fell in the second round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Tournament 2-1 at San Bernardino Valley.
The Lady Eagles got on the board in the 22nd minute when Savannah Alcantar scored on an assist from Gabriella Chaname. Eight minutes later the Wolverines tied it when Julissa Magana scored. Then in the 35th minute San Bernardino took the lead when Veronica Parker scored making it 2-1.
Both team's defenses took over from there as neither team could scored in the second half. MSJC took 17 shots on the day and got 8 of them on goal, but SBVC goal keeper Sarah Gonzales came up with 7 saves. For the Lady Eagles Amber Roberts played all 90 minutes in goal and made 3 saves.
The loss ends an outstanding season for the Lady Eagles as they finish the year 15-3-3 and came in second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division. The Southern California Regional appearance was the second straight for MSJC.
Savannah Alcantar scored the first goal of the match on Saturday for MSJC, but it would be the only one the Lady Eagles could manage as they lost 2-1 to San Bernardino Valley in the 2nd round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional.
