Soccer Team Finishes Strong in First Win of Season
The MSJC women's soccer team picked up their first win of the 2017 season on Tuesday when they defeated visiting El Camino 4-1.
The Lady Eagles jumped out of the gates quickly as Savannah Martinez scored the first goal of the match just 8 minutes in off an assist from Gloria Martinez. MSJC would push their lead to 2-0 before halftime when Heather Furuya scored her first of two goals on the day on an assist from Leslie Cabral in the 26th minute. El Camino's lone goal of the afternoon came in the 60th minute as the cut the lead to 2-1 when Robin Riggs scored. The Lady Eagles responded with a pair of late goals to put the match out of reach. Furuya's second goal came in the 80th minute off and assist from Savannah Martinez and then just 5 minutes later Ariana Serrato added a goal with a helper from Cabral. Elizabeth Barackman picked up the win in goal for the Lady Eagles allowing just the one goal and picking up 3 saves.
The win improved MSJC's season record to 1-2 while El Camino fell to 1-3-1 for the year. The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Long Beach City College for a 2 pm match. MSJC will begin play in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division next Tuesday September 19th when they host San Bernardino Valley on the Menifee Campus.
