Soccer Team Knocks Off First Place MiraCosta
The MSJC women's soccer team rebounded from a disappointing tie on Friday with San Diego City to take down PCAC North leading MiraCosta 3-2 in a crucial conference match up.
The Lady Eagles took the lead in the 39th minute when Dimitra Tsambasis scored on an assist from Tori Sanchez. That was the only goal of the first half. In the second MSJC built the lead to 2-0 when Lizeth Mendez scored off an assist from Brook Wooldrige in the 48th minute. MiraCosta who came into the match with a chance to clinch the PCAC North title came back with two straight goals to tie it at 2-2.
The match remained tied until the 87th minute when Tsambasis scored the winning goal on an assist from Mendez. Melissa Lopez picked up 8 saves in the victory as both teams played very aggressively on both ends of the field.
The win pushed MSJC's record to 12-5-2 overall and 8-2-2 in conference play. MiraCosta fell to 9-2-1 in PCAC play and Miramar the only team in the PCAC North to beat MSJC is now in first place at 9-1-2. The Lady Eagles will continue their play-off push when they play their final regular season match at home on Friday in Menifee. MSJC will take on PCAC South leaders San Diego Mesa at 3 pm.
Dimitra Tsambasis scored two goals on Tuesday to help the MSJC soccer team to a huge win over MiraCosta on the road. The Lady Eagles who are now 12-5-2 on the season finish regular season play on Friday with a home match against San Diego Mesa at 3 pm in Menifee. MSJC is making a strong push to make it to the post season.
