Soccer Team Pushes Win Streak to Three
The MSJC women's soccer team picked up their third win in a row on Tuesday as they won a home match over visiting Mira Costa 3-1.
The Lady Eagles first goal of the afternoon came in the 23rd minute when Heather Furuya scored unassisted. That would be the only goal of the first half as the teams went to the locker room with MSJC up 1-0. Ariana Serrato would add another unassisted Lady Eagle goal in the 65th minute to push the score to 2-0. Then it was Andrea Perez for MSJC who would put the match out of reach in the 77th minute when she scored on an assist from Emily Guzman to extend the lead all the way to 3-0. The Spartans were able to keep from being shut out by scoring their lone goal of the day in the 83rd minute. April Sawyer picked up the win in goal with 2 saves in the match.
The win improved the Lady Eagles overall season record to 4-4-1, they are now 3-1-1 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division standings through one round of play against PCAC-N opponents. Mira Costa fell to 5-5 for the season and 2-3 in conference. MSJC will now play five crossover matches against team from the PCAC-South over the next two and a half weeks, before returning to play in the PCAC-N. First up in the crossover series is San Diego Mesa, the Lady Eagles will travel to San Diego Friday for a 4 pm match with the Olympians.
