Lady Eagle Tennis Team Wins PCAC Championship
The MSJC women's tennis team won 8-1 on Thursday to claim a share of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship.
The Lady Eagles led 2-1 after the doubles matches on Thursday against Cuyamaca and then went on to sweep all six singles matches to win easily in their final regular season match of the year. The victory gave MSJC a final conference record on the season of 12-2 tying them for first place with Grossmont, the Lady Eagles finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-2. The conference championship was the first for MSJC women's tennis since 2010.
Stacey Klink and Scarlett Steele got MSJC off to a fast start as they won the number one doubles match 8-0. Margarita Leyva and Emily Cantu rallied back to win the number three doubles match 9-7 after trailing 7-5 to give the Lady Eagles the tight 2-1 lead after doubles. MSJC then took over in the singles portion of the competition as they swept through Cuyamaca 6-0 without losing a set. Klink, Steele, Corbie Adams, Shayla Evans, Leyva, and Cantu were all straight set winners.
MSJC will now await to see if they made it to the dual team Southern California Regionals which begin next Tuesday. The PCAC Conference Tournament is set for next Thursday through Saturday at Cuyamaca.
