Women's Tennis Has Strong Weekend
The women's tennis team had a strong showing this past weekend at the first Cypress College Chargers Invitational Tennis Tournament. Yesenia Lozano (Sophomore, San Jacinto) made it all the way to the semi-finals of the singles draw before losing to Saddleback College 6-4, 6-0. Nicole Lessley (Freshman, Canyon Lake) also competed and made it to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual champion from Glendale College (AZ) 6-0,6-0. Melissa Valdez (Sophomore, Hemet) and Christina Garcia (Sophomore, San Jacinto) made it to the quarterfinals with exciting wins over Glendale College (AZ). Michelle Escamilla (Sophomore, San Jacinto), Vanessa Mendoza (Sophomore, San Jacinto), and Brittany Henderson (Freshman, Hemet) also competed very well in the consolation singles draw.
In the women's doubles draw, Lozano/Lessley made it to the finals before losing the eventual champions from Glendale College (AZ) 6-3, 6-0. Garcia/Mendoza were semifinalists and Valdez/Escamilla were quarterfinalists. Overall, Garcia/Mendoza finished 4th in the tournament and Valdez/Escamilla finished 6th.
The women's tennis season kicks off on January 27th with a scrimmage against Santa Ana College.
