Learning Resource Center

Mission Statement

The mission of the Learning Resource Center is to maintain a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where all MSJC students can become aware of and achieve their specific academic goals and commitment to lifelong learning through diverse and active learning experiences and collaboration with peers, tutors, and faculty.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to expand our services to all members of the college community using distance learning technologies to complement our personal, on-campus services. Through these means we seek to empower MSJC students and instill in them the desire to successfully meet and surpass their academic, vocational, and personal goals.

General Services

The Learning Resource Center provides a variety of services to promote the enhancement of the student’s academic goals. Three of the primary services we offer are walk-in tutoring, workshops, and computer usage. In addition, resource handouts are available to assist students with study skills, term papers, and a selection of other academic tasks.

Our goal is to increase scholastic achievement by providing MSJC students with effective tutoring in content area courses, by exposing students to study skill techniques, and by promoting confidence and self-esteem necessary for students to succeed in today’s academic environment. We invite you to stop by for a visit, meet the staff, and let us assist you in your efforts during the semester.

All services are free; however, students must present MSJC ID cards to access services.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Increase persistence, retention, and completion rates among the students who utilize our services.
  • Increase student academic success skills, including literacy and numeracy, through appropriate, accessible, and up to date learning resources delivered through multiple modalities including face to face instruction (workshops, Supplemental Instruction, etc.), tutorial services, and technology (Skillstutor, Skillsbank, etc.).
  • Provide systematic, effective, and ongoing training of peer tutors.
  • Increase active learning by promoting and tracking student usage of the learning centers.
