Board Highlights October and November 2015

During its regular meeting on Oct. 8, 2015, the Mt. San Jacinto College Board of Trustees approved new classified positions, new appointments and agreed to hold another facilities workshop.

The Board approved five new classified positions and five classified appointments. Trustees approved 26 associate faculty appointments and also approved appointing Michael Beckham to serve as interim Dean of Instruction, Math & Sciences, because Brandon Moore, who previously held the position, is currently serving as interim Vice President of Instruction.

During the Nov. 12, 2015 meeting, the board held a facilities prioritization work session. The board heard information about the California Public Education Facilities Bond Initiative, which is eligible for the November 8, 2016 ballot. They also reviewed the state’s Five-Year Construction Plan and MSJC’s Five-Year Construction Plan, the California Environmental Quality Act, Athletic Facility projects, Photovoltaic updates.

The board approved 13 new classified positions, one classified position that will perform duties related to Measure AA, and 16 tenure track faculty positions. Trustees also approved the following new hires and appointments:

  • 18 associate faculty
  • 5 classified
  • 4 directors
    • Maya Cardenas – Director of Student Life & Development
    • Gail Jensen – Director of Budget & Accounting
    • Susanne Mata – Director Career Technical Education Projects
    • Kathy Valcarcel – Director of CalWorks

The board will hold its annual organizational meeting at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 10, 2015 in the Board Room (200) on the San Jacinto Campus and link to room 851 on the Menifee Valley Campus. The regular meeting will immediately follow.
