Congressman Raul Ruiz M.D. speaks to MSJC students

Congressman Raul Ruiz M.D. spoke to a full house in the San Jacinto Campus Theater about what it was like to grow up the son of farm workers and then go on to earn three graduate degrees from Harvard University.  Ruiz spoke about his mother and what she taught him about the importance of education and service.

Ruiz worked in emergency medicine before running for congress.

A few students joined the congressman for lunch and a question and answer session on campus just before he spoke in the theater.  The students were selected through an essay contest; the winners were: Ursula Simonoski, Eliana Christianson, Kyle Estrella, Nicholas Ketron, and Anthony Torres.

The event was hosted by the Honors Enrichment Program and coordinated by HEP student mentors Jeffery Patterson and Norberto Gonzalez.

With essay contest winner Eliana Christianson.
