Dance Auditions for Musical Theater Production of Into the Woods

November 19, 2018

A red cape, a strand of golden hair, a golden shoe, and a white cow. It's these four items that send a baker and his barren wife through the woods on a magical journey to reverse an evil spell. They wish for a child and are sent by an evil witch on a scavenger hunt. Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella soon join the mix in this magical tale of love and adventure.

In this version of Into the Woods, the Mt. San Jacinto College Theater Department explores the idea of “The Woods” as its own living, breathing, entity, a very important “character” in the production. To drive this idea home, they will cast a dance ensemble to embody the “character” of “The Woods.”

Auditions will be held Monday, November 26, 2018 in the San Jacinto Campus theater, Building 1500 at 6:00 p.m. Call backs will be on the same day. Dancers will not be required to sing or to act, we are simply looking for 6-8 talented dancers of all shapes and sizes.

For the audition you must perform a 1-2 minute dance piece and provide your own music.

Anyone college age and above is welcomed to audition. Auditions are open to MSJC students and the general public. All those who are cast in the production or are a member of the stage crew must enroll as a student in the course THA 216 Musical Theatre Production, or in a special projects course.

The Director is the SJC Theater Department Chair Bianca Swan-Finch. The Choreographer for “The Woods” is the talented Kirsten Johansen.
