Attendees came from as far as the San Diego area
Mt. San Jacinto College hosted an Environmental Conservation Conference on November 15, 2012 at the Menifee Valley Campus.
The event, sponsored by Southern California Gas Company, was free and open to the public.
Those who attended included students from a variety of colleges, high school teachers from the region and from the San Diego area and other members of the public who were interested in the topic.
MSJC Superintendent/President Dr. Roger Schultz and Randon Lane, Public Affairs Manager for Southern California Gas Company, greeted the audience. Paulo Morais, the Gas Company’s Energy Programs Supervisor, gave the audience a presentation on the company’s environmental efforts. A panel of MSJC faculty members engaged the audience in a panel discussion about green initiatives at the colleges. The faculty members were from the science, engineering technology, and environmental studies disciplines.
The panel discussion was facilitated by Dr. Roy Mason, Biology Instructor & Department Chair at the Menifee Valley Campus. Faculty panelists were Michael Creighton, Jason Hlebakos, David Hunt, Catherine Kelso and Jacob Kevari.
“I thought this first conference was very successful,” Dr. Mason said. “It really showcased the talent we have here at Mt. San Jacinto (College). I think the community realized the quality of instructors we have that are poised to be real players in a green environment.”
In addition to participating in the panel discussion, Dr. Jason Hlebakos presented information on bio fuels during hands-on breakout sessions. He said he was impressed with the level of interest demonstrated by some of the audience members.
