Mt. San Jacinto College’s Continuing Education program has launched a new not-for-credit class in Accent Reduction.
The class is being offered after many of the Continuing Education English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) students requested the class to help them with their pronunciation, said Beatriz Aguilar, coordinator of the non-credit ESL program at the college.
The $125.00 fee for this class includes all materials for a 12-hour intensive workshop. The workshop will be limited to 20 students and will focus solely on reducing the accents of students and show how to identify pronunciation problems, analyze correct tongue and mouth placement, and practice the intonations, rhythm, and stress patterns of American English. Students will rotate between audio/visual aids, a workbook, and the instructor.
This new class is being offered on four Mondays at the Menifee Valley Campus in room 412, 28237 La Piedra Rd., Menifee, beginning April 7 through 28 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, and is being taught by Donna Viola, Ed.D.
