Mt. San Jacinto College Visiting Writers Series Fall 2015
Menifee Valley Campus
28237 La Piedra Rd., Menifee, 92584
David Nicholson, Oct. 27, 12:30 pm, Rm. 407
Laurie Pepper, Nov. 14, 6:00 pm, MSJC Art Festival
Sponsored by the Menifee Valley Campus English Department, the College Foundation, and Poets & Writers, Inc., guests can enjoy a conversation and reading with author David Nicholson, whose collection of short stories “Flying Home: seven stories of the secret city,” is receiving critical acclaim from the likes of “New York Times” book reviewer Nicholas Mancusi: “The characters here may be strangers in their country, and even in their city, but not in their neighborhood, which Nicholson depicts with sensitivity and grace.”
At the MSJC Art Festival, Laurie Pepper, wife of the late jazz musician Art Pepper, will discuss her memoir “ART: Why I Stuck with a Junkie Jazzman,” which also garnered praise from critics, such as the one from London Jazz News which says that ART is a "witty, wise and deeply compassionate book." A jazz performance by Dr. Jeremy Brown, MSJC’s dean of instruction and former chair of the music department, and Marshall Hawkins, a legendary jazz artist who played with jazz greats like Miles Davis, will also be a part of Pepper’s discussion.
These are extraordinary opportunities for audiences to listen to award-winning authors in conversation about their work and engage in a discussion about the craft of writing.
The events are free and open to the public.
