Jackson, MS – A Mt. San Jacinto College biology instructor was one of 30 across the globe to be awarded with the 2014 Distinguished Advisor Award, presented by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Nick Reeves, biology instructor on the Menifee Valley Campus and a Phi Theta Kappa advisor, will receive the award during NerdNation 2014, the annual convention in Orlando, Florida, April 24-26. Recipients will receive commemorative medallions and be honored during the Association of Chapter Advisors Luncheon and the Hallmark Awards Gala.
The Distinguished Advisor Award recognizes advisors who have served at least four years and have made significant contributions to the growth of the individual chapter members, served as the chapter’s advocate on campus, and encouraged the chapter to be involved on the local, regional, and/or international level of the organization. Advisors were nominated by their chapters through the Hallmark Awards application process. They were selected by a panel of judges from over 75 nominees worldwide.
“Over the last five years I have had the pleasure to serve as an advisor for the Beta Delta Omega chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Mt. San Jacinto College. During that time I have mentored several student officers that have successfully completed a number of service learning projects focused on the Phi Theta Kappa hallmarks of Scholarship, Service, Fellowship, and Leadership. Several of the officers have received recognition from Phi Theta Kappa for their outstanding efforts and scholarships from several organizations to continue their educational journey. The experience of seeing these student officers transform into strong leaders and outstanding scholars has been a highlight of my time as a faculty member at Mt. San Jacinto College. I am honored to receive the Distinguished Chapter Advisor Award from Phi Theta Kappa for this work,” Dr. Reeves said.
