The Mt. San Jacinto College Board of Trustees has made a provisional appointment to fill the vacancy for Trustee Area 3.

Notice of Vacancy​​

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Trustees of Mt. San Jacinto Community College District will begin accepting applications​ to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees. Applications will be available beginning at 8
a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018 through 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the San Jacinto Campus, Superintendent/President’s Office, Room 204, 1499 N. State Street, San Jacinto, CA, 92583, or on the District web site www.msjc.edu under Notice of Board of Trustees Vacancy.

Interviews will be conducted at a public meeting to be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the San Jacinto Campus in the Board Room at 1499 N. State Street, San Jacinto, CA, 92583. At that time, the public will have the opportunity to comment. The Board may select the appointee by a majority vote.

Persons applying for the vacancy must reside in Trustee Area 3 and meet the legal qualifications for Board members as detailed in Education Codes 72103 – 72104:

(a) Any person, regardless of sex, who is 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the state, a resident of the community college district, a registered voter, and who is not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office,​ is eligible to be elected or appointed a member of a governing board of a community college district without further qualifications.

Education Codes 72103 – 72104 also provides that:

(b)(1) An employee of a community college district may not be sworn into office as an elected or appointed member of that community college district’s governing board unless and until he or she resigns as an employee. If the employee does not resign, the employment will automatically terminate upon being sworn into office. (Education Code §72103)

The person appointed shall be sworn in on September 13, 2018 and shall be afforded all the powers and duties of a Board Member upon appointment.

The person appointed will fill the vacated Trustee Area 3 seat for the remainder of the term, which ends in December 2018.

Application for Appointment to Fill Trustee Area 3 Board Vacancy​

The Mt. San Jacinto College Board of Trustees is seeking applicants interested in filling the vacancy for Trustee Area 3 through Dec. 13, 2018. The seat is vacant after Bill Zimmerman resigned to accept an appointment as the mayor of the city of Menifee. Mr. Zimmerman’s term on the MSJC board would have expired in December.

Applicants must legally reside in Trustee Area 3, which takes in Menifee and portions of Hemet. Applications are available starting 8 a.m. on Aug. 20 through 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 30  at the San Jacinto Campus, Superintendent/President’s Office, Room 204, 1499 N. State Street, San Jacinto, CA, 92583 or on the District web site www.msjc.edu under Notice of Board of Trustees Vacancy.

Interviews will be conducted at a public meeting to be held in the afternoon of Sept. 13, 2018 (exact time will be posted prior to that date and applicants will be notified ahead of time) at the San Jacinto Campus in the Board Room at 1499 N. State Street, San Jacinto, CA, 92583. At that time, the public will have the opportunity to comment. The Board may select the appointee by a majority vote.
