Active Shooter Awareness

The District is preparing active shooter training for our employees and students,  consistent with the MSJC Emergency Operations Plan and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.  Our goal is to roll these trainings out during Fall Semester, 2015.

We would like to share two Active Shooter awareness training links, shown below.  One is through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the other is through Keenan Safe Colleges.  While this training is not required, it comes highly recommended.  These trainings prepare campus staff, faculty and administration by providing information on how active shooter events occur and how they may be more effectively prevented. While no web course, training video or live training can guarantee the safety of the people on our campus, when we follow the research-based principles provided in this course we can reduce the chances of an active shooter incident for the MSJC campus and increase the odds of survival for both ourselves and others.

Along with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, we have put together a list of resources:

·         Attached handout regarding Active Shooter Incidents
·         Link to FEMA Active Shooter training
·         Link to The Keenan Safe Collegetraining for Faculty and Staff  (your Keenan username is your MSJC employee ID#)
·         Link to The Keenan Safe Collegetraining for Administration  (your Keenan username is your MSJC employee ID#)
·         The trainings refer to the District Emergency Operations Plan, please review our condensed version
