Assessment Placement Test at MSJC
TIP: Study First! Assessment testing for placement is important, and we encourage all students to brush up on their skills and review study materials before taking the test.
The Mt. San Jacinto Community College District uses the College Board computerized Accuplacer placement format for assessment testing.
The purpose of ACCUPLACER tests is to help you make sound decisions about your courses by providing useful information about your academic skills in Reading, English and Math. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by MSJC counselors to determine your course selection so that you have the best opportunity for success.
It is very important that you do your very best on these tests so that you will have an accurate measure of your academic skills.
Accuplacer assessment is administered online and on a walk-in basis.
The test usually requires a minimum of 2 hours for students to complete. The
assessment staff will provide a 10-15 minute presentation at the beginning
of each assessment session that will familiarize students with the Accuplacer
format and answer any questions. Using the online version does not require
special training or knowledge! A paper version of the Accuplacer is available
on request, but we encourage the online version because of its adaptive testing
technique. Adaptive testing means the questions are chosen for you on the basis
of your answers to previous questions. This technique selects just the right
questions for your ability level.
There are no appointments necessary; however, it is best to arrive two hours before lunch or two hours before the center closes.
Students must bring: A valid picture ID (no picture ID, no test, no exceptions)
