First Week of Online Classes a Success
Sent 04/10/2020
Dear Students
I am so full of hope after completing our first full week of online classes. You are all diving in, asking questions, helping each other and forging ahead despite the changes COVID-19 has thrust upon our lives. Way to go, Eagles!
Thanks to your resiliency, and that of our faculty, classified staff, administrators and our Board of Trustees, MSJC is showing the world what it means to work together to reach new heights.
We had few issues to resolve during our first week. Our first regular, fully online Board of Trustees meeting went off without a hitch. Our data is showing that students continue to persevere and are dropping at a lower rate than the same time last year. Our online retention and achievement rates also continue to climb.
I want to give a special thanks to our Distance Education team that worked 24/7 to get faculty and staff trained on using our online platforms and fielded hundreds of questions to prepare for our fully online college. And thanks to our partners at Perris Union High School District and our MSJC Foundation for making sure students who needed technology will get it so they can continue their educational journeys.
I hope getting back into the swing of school brings some comfort and normalcy amid the stay-at-home orders. I encourage you to use the online tools to reach out to your classmates, instructors, counselors and others to create a sense of college life in a new way.
Thank you again, Eagles, for continuing to rise.
Take care, stay well and healthy,
Roger Schultz
