Rhythm and Poetry: The New Sound
Dr. Jo-Ann Marie Hoye explores the immense opportunities Spoken Word Poetry offers our communities. She shares her experiences introducing this creative art form to Lake Elsinore Unified School District middle schools. Dr. Hoye traces the powerful legacy of spoken word, from the 1920s Harlem Renaissance and the Black Arts Movement to the birth of hip hop, BET's "Def Poetry," and modern TEDx competitions. Ultimately, she demonstrates how Spoken Word Poetry amplifies literacy skills across school-age children, teens, and young adults, energizing the communities of Temecula, Murrieta, and Menifee.
