Roles and Responsibilites
Participatory governance involves a collaborative effort where various stakeholders, including faculty, classified professional staff, administrators, students, and the Board of Trustees, have distinct roles and responsibilities aimed at shaping the institution’s policies, programs, and future direction. These roles are defined and executed with a commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and the best interests of the college district and its community.
Academic Senate Participation
The Board of Trustees recognizes the Academic Senate as the official body representing the faculty in participatory governance relating to academic and professional matters.
CSEA/Classified Senate Participation
The Board of Trustees recognizes the Classified Senate as the official body, which represents Classified Professional staff as well as Classified Confidential staff, in the formation of District policy through collegial participatory governance, exclusive of collective bargaining issues.
Student Government Association Participation
The Board of Trustees recognizes the Student Government Association as the official body which represents the students in participatory governance relating to student matters.
Administrative Participation
Administration is provided the opportunity to participate in the formulation and development of district and college policies and procedures. Administrative representation on participatory governance committees shall be appointed and assigned by the President’s Executive Cabinet.
Constituent Groups
Committee Tri-Chairs
The MSJC Participatory Governance structure values providing leadership opportunities for all constituent groups. As such, each Committee has tri-chair structure represented by a member of Administration, Faculty, and Classified Professional. Administrative Chairs are appointed by the Executive Cabinet. Faculty and Classified Professional Chairs will be selected/appointed by a Participatory Governance Committee vote. Committee Tri-Chairs are delegated as voting members for each Committee.
