Community College League of California Elects 2023-24 CEOCCC Board Officers

At its June 16 Board Meeting, the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) Board elected the following 2023-24 board officers:

  • President, Julianna Barnes, Chancellor, South Orange County CCD 
  • President-Elect, Roger Schultz, Supt./President, Mt. San Jacinto CCD
  • Vice President North, Rowena Tomaneng, President, San Jose City College
  • Vice President South, Sunita Cooke, Supt./President, MiraCosta CCD
  • Immediate Past President, Jose Fierro, Supt./President Cerritos, CCD 

Larry Galizio, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Community College League, offered a word of encouragement following the election, “Congratulations and thank you to district and college leaders participating in the selection of Julianna Barnes of the South Orange CCD as president of the CEO Board, Roger Schultz, Mt. San Jacinto as president-elect, Rowena Tomaneng, San Jose City College, VP North, and Sunny Cooke, MiraCosta College, as VP South. Following the energetic and committed leadership of Cerritos CCD President Jose Fierro, this esteemed group of experienced college leaders will bring thoughtful and diverse perspectives and backgrounds to these statewide roles. I look forward to working with them to advance the essential mission of California community colleges,"

The CEOCCC Board takes positions on education policy issues that come before the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and the California State Legislature. CEOCCC Board members represent their colleagues by region or at-large and fulfill the important responsibility of analyzing and making recommendations on legislation and the State Budget.

In addition to her role as the CEOCCC Board President, Julianna Barnes will also be serving as an officer on the League Board of Directors along side CCCT Board President, Andra Hoffman, Los Angeles CCD. 

In hearing of the election results, Andra Hoffman, CCCT Board president offered her thoughts, "I look forward to serving with Dr. Julianna Barnes who was named as President of the CEOCCC Board of the Community College League of California.  We share a similar vision and her appointment serves as a testament to her unwavering commitment to California Community Colleges and the students we educate.

Dr. Barnes has left an indelible mark on the lives of many students throughout her career in our system and now she will have an even bigger impact statewide.  I’m so grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside Julianna."
