Warning: Fraudulent Emails Asking for BankMobile Information

Dear MSJC Students,

We want to alert you to recent reports of fraudulent emails being sent to students, claiming to be from Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC). These emails may ask you to update your BankMobile or other financial aid information and often include links or attachments designed to steal your personal or financial data.

Please be advised:

✅ Always log into your official MSJC account or BankMobile profile directly through known, secure websites — not through email links.
🚫 Do not click on suspicious links or download unknown attachments.

🔍 How to Spot a Spoof Email:

  • Look closely at the sender's address. Fake emails may look similar but have subtle misspellings or strange domains (e.g.,  gmail.com ormsjc-college.net instead of msjc.edu).
  • Be cautious of urgent or threatening language. Scammers often try to create panic so you'll act without thinking.
  • Hover over links (but don't click!) to see where they really lead — fake emails often disguise malicious URLs.
  • Avoid opening unfamiliar attachments, especially .eml, .docx, or .zip files. These may contain malware or phishing tools.
  • Poor grammar and typos are common signs of phishing attempts.
  • Unusual requests, especially those asking for personal or financial information, are red flags.

If you receive a message you believe may be suspicious:

  • Do not reply, click any links, or open attachments.
  • Delete the email from your inbox and trash.

Your cybersecurity and privacy are important to us. We are actively monitoring this situation and taking steps to help protect our campus community.

If you have questions or believe your account may have been compromised, please contact MSJC's IT Help Desk at support@msjc.edu or 951-465-7677.

Thank you for staying vigilant.
