San Jacinto Campus:
Noon Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019 – MSJC San Jacinto Campus, 1499 N. State Street, San Jacinto rescheduled due to weather conditions.
The Mt. San Jacinto College Career Education Office will proudly unveil its new MSJC Mobile Career Center at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at its Menifee Valley Campus, and at noon Thursday, Feb. 14, at its San Jacinto Campus.
The media and the public are invited to attend both events to celebrate the debut of the new Mobile Career Center, an educational vehicle that will travel throughout the Mt. San Jacinto Community College District.
Featuring 14 computer stations and an interview station, the Mobile Career Center will visit schools and job fairs, participate in community parades, and provide community workshops such as resume writing and interview skills. College officials will also collaborate with local agencies such as the Economic Development Coalition to attend various regional conferences, meetings and trade shows.
“Whether you’re at Mt. San Jacinto College to get a certificate, upgrade your skills or start a new career, MSJC Career Education is here to help you succeed,” said Joyce Johnson, Executive Dean of Instruction.
“The Mobile Career Center is a logical next step that enables us to send our knowledgeable resources out into our communities to help people further their education or prepare to land their next job. MSJC will be there to help them succeed and thrive in today’s workforce.”
The Strong Workforce Program provided about $300,000 in funding for the Mobile Career Center.
Guests at the Menifee Valley Campus event on Feb. 12 are also welcome to tour the MSJC Eagle MakerSpace, which features 18 3D printers, a biotech cell culture lab, a laser engraver, a 3D scanner and hand tools.
The MakerSpace, also created with Strong Workforce Funding, has become very popular among students, staff and faculty at the Menifee Valley Campus, MakerSpace Specialist Hal Edghill said.
“We’ve developed a nice community in here,” Edghill said of the Eagle MakerSpace. “Students interact, they assist each other, they volunteer. It’s just become a great space of organic interaction.
“We’ve also seen a lot of participation from faculty, who are sending students in here, whether they’re studying engineering, math, English, you name it. They’re really enjoying it and getting really creative learning new skills.”
