A Message from the Superintendent/President | Mourning with our Asian Pacific Islander Desi American communities

1/23/2023

Dear MSJC community members,

The senseless shooting on Saturday during the Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park, CA has left us devastated. The Lunar New Year is a holiday that represents so much to the communities we support and serve. The day is meant to be filled with hope, positivity, and is designed to bring family, friends, and communities together. This tragedy hits close to home, as we were shocked to learn the suspect was from Hemet. We mourn alongside our Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) communities, students, faculty, staff, and community and we ask you to join us in keeping the victims, their families and community in our thoughts.

Our Student Health Centers are open and ready to help students who may need mental health support at this time.

For employees who are seeking help coping with this tragedy, please visit our Human Resources webpage and look under the Health and Welfare tab to find our Talk Space therapy or Employee Assistance Program information.

Please take care of each other, too. If you see someone who is struggling due to this tragedy, please direct them to this message to find places where they can find help.

We are Eagles and we will stand by each other.

Be safe and take care.

Roger
